Mia le Roux Breaks Barriers as First Hearing-Impaired Miss South Africa
Mia le Roux has made history as the first hearing-impaired Miss South Africa, inspiring hope and breaking barriers with her victory in the pageant’s 66-year history.
Mia Le Roux was diagnosed with profound hearing loss when she was just a year old. She has a cochlear implant to help her perceive sound.
She said to the BBC, “I am a proudly South African deaf woman, and I know what it feels like to be excluded. I know now that I was put on this planet to break boundaries, and I did it tonight.
Mia le Roux is the first deaf woman to be crowned Miss South Africa.
In her acceptance speech, she said she hoped her victory would help those who felt excluded from society to achieve their “wildest dreams”.
